Talk2me vs Wispr Flow.
Checked 30 September 2026 against Wispr Flow's own pages. Every Wispr Flow fact below links to its source.
The short version. Both turn your voice into text in any app. Wispr Flow sends your voice to the cloud, needs an account, and uses your dictation to improve its models unless you turn that off. Talk2me turns your voice into text on your own machine, needs no account, and never trains on your voice. Your data belongs to you. We never touch it.
Side by side
| # | Question | Talk2me | Wispr Flow |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Where is your voice turned into text? | On your machine, by default | In the cloud, always. "Transcription always occurs on the cloud." [1] |
| 2 | Is your voice used to train AI? | NEVER | Yes. "Improve the model for everyone is on by default for Free and Pro", and it lets Wispr use "dictation content to improve Wispr's models", unless you turn it off. [2] |
| 3 | Account required? | No | Yes. "Create an account or sign in." [3] |
| 4 | Works offline? | Yes, after a one-time model download | No. "An internet connection is required for transcription." [3] |
| 5 | Reads what is on your screen? | No | Yes, by default ("Context Awareness"): app info, text box contents and on-screen text. Its docs say it does not take screenshots. [4] |
| 6 | Where is your data stored? | On your machine. We never receive it. | Processed and stored in the United States. [5] |
| 7 | Does deleting history on your computer delete it everywhere? | Yes. There is no other copy. | Not necessarily: it "does not necessarily remove copies already uploaded". [6] |
| 8 | Price | $10 a year. Free during the private beta | Pro: $180 a year paying monthly ($15 a month), or $144 billed yearly. Free plan: 2,000 words a week on desktop, about 15 minutes of talking. [7] |
| 9 | Usage statistics | Optional: only if you say yes | "Wispr may collect usage statistics such as the number of words you have dictated, regardless of your data controls." [1] |
| 10 | Platforms | Mac now; Windows and Linux next | Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android [7] |
Why it matters
A voice is personal data. What you dictate is often more private still: messages, medical notes, client work, code, passwords said out loud by mistake. A cloud app has to receive all of it to work. An app that runs on your machine does not.
Wispr Flow's opt-out also has limits in its own words: turning off model training "does not stop cloud processing or change storage settings". [2] With Talk2me there is nothing to opt out of, because nothing leaves your machine unless you choose a cloud engine yourself, with your own key.
When Wispr Flow may suit you better
- You need it on your phone or on Windows today. Talk2me is Mac only for now.
- You want meeting notes. Talk2me is dictation only, on purpose.
- You don't mind the cloud and want to work across many devices with one account.

Sources
Talk2me keeps your voice on your machine with a local voice model, the default. If you choose a third-party cloud engine, that provider's policy applies; we recommend Zero Data Retention (ZDR) providers, and Talk2me tags every route. Talk2me itself never receives your voice.
